Swachhata Hi Seva campaign 2024 at ICAR-NRCB


The Swachhta Hi Seva campaign (theme'Swabhav Swachhata - Sanskaar Swachhata') was organized at the ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana, Trichy, from September 17 to October 2, 2024. The program was inaugurated by the director, Dr. R. Selvarajan, ICAR-NRCB. The display of banners of the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign was placed at the ICAR-NRCB office building, the Institute Research Farm, and the residential complex. All staff members at the ICAR-NRCB office took the Swachhta Pledge during the event. A selfie point was also installed at ICAR-NRCB and Keerikalmedu village to spread the Swachhta Hi Seva messages through mass media.On September 17, 2024, a plantation drive 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' was held at the ICAR-NRCB research farm, and roughly 100 saplings were planted. The chief guests, Dr.Selvarajan R., Director of ICAR-NRCB, and Mr. Karmegam, former DGM of TNPL, participated alongside scientists and farm workers in this mass plantation drive. As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva 2024 program, our director briefed about cleanliness, sanitation, and hygiene practices to the Diploma in Agriculture students from Pudukottai. These students were actively participated in spreading awareness about Swachhtaactivities. We discussed about thedisposal practices for biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and with schoolchildren at Keerikalmedu Public School on September 18, 2024 (Wednesday). Also, organized a coloring and speaking competition for the students, with the theme "Cleanliness in Day-to-Day Life." Prizes were distributed to the winning students. Our Swachhta team members raised community involvement in cleanliness among the general public on September 19, 2024. Our institute organized a competition for staff members and their families focused on transforming waste into art. Three outstanding craft items made from waste materials were selected and awarded. A human chain and rally were organized in front of our office with participation from the director of ICAR-NRCB and all staff members. Local residents and school children also took part in the human chain activity at Keerikalmedu village to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness in everyday life. Several placards featuring various hygiene slogans were displayed for the community. Cleanliness events were conducted at the Murugan and Periya Nayaki Amman temples in Keeikalmedu village on September 23, 2024.As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva 2024 program, a difficult and dirty spot (black spot) was identified on September 24, 2024, with GPS coordinates. Theblack spot was cleaned to celebrate theSwachhta Bharat Diwas on October 2, 2024. We briefed the sanitation and garden workers at ICAR-NRCB, Trichy, about social welfare linkages and their benefits, and also distributed safety kits to the sanitary workers.All staff members, including scientific, technical, administrative, research fellows and contractual staffs, schoolchildren, farmers, and village people were actively participated in the Swachhta Hi Seva campaign, raising awareness about cleanliness during this programme. The identified difficult and dirty spot (black spot) was cleaned to showcase the transformation of Cleanliness Target Units on 01-10-2024. Trained sanitation workers to raise awareness about Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling Materials. Also, interact with the sanitation workers and listen the experiences of sanitation workers in maintaining cleanliness in the institute. On October 2, 2024, we celebrated“Swachhta Bharat Diwas”. The director of ICAR-NRCB highlighted that proper laboratory techniques should be observed in all laboratories. He additionally created an Institute Waste Management Committee, assigning in-charges to each laboratory and announcing that the best-maintained lab would be acknowledged by next year. He thanked all of the Swachhta team members and coordinators for their enthusiastic engagement during the program. He awarded welfare benefits to sanitation workers and congratulated the winners of the Waste to Art competition. Finally, he highlighted and demonstrated the previously defined Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) on September 24, 2024, which had been transformed on October 1, 2024.
