“Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” @ Commemoration of 75th Year of India’s Independence
Capacity development programme in banana cultivation & academic and entrepreneurial opportunities in banana sector for Horticultural students of Karnataka state
ICAR – National Research Centre for Banana, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu organised a one-day online students HRD programme on “Capacity development programme in banana cultivation & academic and entrepreneurial opportunities in banana sector for Horticultural students of Karnataka state” on 20.07.2021. Dr. S. Uma, Director, ICAR-NRCB, Tiruchirappalli highlighted the importance of banana cultivation and the opportunities available for the agricultural and horticultural students in banana sector. Furter, she emphasised the academic avenues available for the students in banana Research & Development. Earlier, in his welcome address Dr. C. Karpagam, Senior Scientist briefed the objective of the one-day programme. A video film about ICAR-NRCB was screened. Two dimensions of banana R & D were discussed in the technical session. Dr. S. Backiyarani, Principal Scientist highlighted the banana improvement aspects with details about new varieties and other improvement technologies. In the second part, Dr. P. Sureshkumar, Principal Scientist discussed about the various post-harvest technologies and products developed by ICAR-NRCB. Seventy final year horticultural students and five faculties from College of Horticulture, Hiriyar, UAHS, Shivamogga, Karnataka were participated as per their all-India education virtual study tour programme schedule. This was organised as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75th Year of India’s Independence.
