ICAR – National Research Centre for Banana, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu and ICAR-KVK Ariyalur jointly organized a farmers’ meet at Keezhapalur village in Thirumanur block, Ariyalur district. Three events viz., a block-level micro exhibition, Kela Mela cum training programme were coordinated to cover the block level banana farmers and different stakeholders on 15.3.2022. Dr Alagukkannan, Sr. Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK, Ariyalur proposed a welcome address and briefed about the programme. Dr. C. Karpagam, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Extension) & Training Coordinator of ICAR-NRCB elaborated the ICAR-NRCB’s research & extension activities and how the farmers can utilize the services provided by the NRCB for the betterment of banana cultivation. Further, he stressed that this kind of block-level micro exhibition & Kela Mela will intensively cover the requirement of particular target farmers and give the required information to the stakeholders. During the meeting, a booklet on “Banana” which cover the details from banana new varieties to post-harvest technologies was released and the farm inputs were distributed to the beneficiaries, all the participants have visited the exhibition and discussed the new avenues in banana cultivation with the scientists and SMS. Mr. B. Anandhan, DDH, Ariyalur district participated in the programme and addressed the gatherings about the ongoing Government schemes for farmers and other stakeholders. Dr. M. Loganathan, Principal Scientist delivered a talk on banana disease and pest management in an elaborate manner. Dr Raja Joslin, SMS (Hort.), ICAR-KVK, Ariyalur briefed the fertilizer and nutrient management in grand Naine and Poovan banana cultivation. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Dr A. Rajkala, SMS, ICAR-KVK (CREED), Ariyalur. Around 60 SS beneficiaries were participated and got benefited from the programme.
