ICAR – National Research Centre for Banana, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu and Community Science College and Research Institute, Madurai jointly organizeda farmers’meet at Madurai on 23rd March 2022. Three events viz., KelaMela, exhibitioncum training programme were coordinated to cover the different block-level selected SC banana farmers and different stakeholders. Dr. S. Amutha, Dean (Community Science, CSC&RI, Madurai) delivered her special address and discussed the importance of district-level exhibition and training programme to reach the unreached. Dr J. Pushpa, Professor and Head and local coordinator of the programme welcome the gathering. Dr. C. Karpagam, Principal Scientist (Agricultural Extension) & Training coordinator of ICAR NRCB explained the role of ICAR NRCB in banana Research and Development and how the farmers can utilize the services provided by the NRCB for the betterment of banana cultivation. Dr. M. Loganathan, Principal Scientist discussed banana diseases and their management techniques. Dr. K. N. Shiva, Principal Scientist discussed the advanced research in post-harvest technologies. Drs. S. Kanchana, Professor & Head, P.S. Geetha, Associate professor and A. Kalaiselvan, the Assistant professor from CSC &RI, Madurai discussed the different dimensions of value-added products in banana cultivation. During the meeting, a booklet on “Banana” which cover the details from banana new varieties tovalue-added product aspects was released. Farmers have visited the value-added products exhibition. Appreciation certificates were presented to all the participants. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Dr A. Kalaiselvan. Around 40SC beneficiaries from different blocks of the Madurai district were participated and got benefited from the programme.
