ICAR- NRCB organized an Internship Training Programme for VIT students during 24th - 28th June 2024

The ICAR - National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB), Tiruchirappalli, organized an Internship Training Programme from June 24 to 28, 2024, on “Comprehensive Training on Banana Improvement, Production, Protection, Post-Harvest Technology & Extension.” B.Sc. (Agriculture) students from VIT, Vellore, and KIT, Coimbatore, participated.

The students received hands-on training in various aspects, including embryo culture, chromosome doubling, advanced tissue culture techniques, biotechnology, best farming practices, AI-based irrigation, drone technology, integrated pest and disease management, and plant virology. They also learned about post-harvest techniques, banana export, fiber production, value-added products, extension services, startup opportunities, and government schemes. Additionally, they visited the NRCB farm.

The interns were felicitated on June 28, 2024. Dr. R. Selvarajan, Director of ICAR-NRCB, distributed certificates and addressed the students. Dr. M. Mayil Vaganan, Organizing Secretary and Nodal Officer HRD, delivered the welcome address. Dr. C. Karpagam, Course Director, submitted the training report, and Dr. A. Mohanasundaram, Course Director, proposed the vote of thanks.
