In the 91st Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) held on 16th July, 2019 at New Delhi Dr. P. Suresh Kumar, Senior Scientist from ICAR-National Research Centre for Banana, Tiruchirappalli received award given annually by the ICAR, New Delhi in recognition of his and dedicated research and contribution. Dr. Suresh Kumar is the first Horticultural Scientist from Tamil Nadu to get this most prestigious award. The award includes a citation and prize money 1.00 lakh, budgetary provision for Rs. 30 lakh to take up a challenge project for a period of three years and another Rs. 5.00 lakh for International Exposure Training for three months. His award winning challenge project is entitled ‘Symbiotic and fortified foods to alleviate hidden hunger using banana wastes’. The award ceremony was attended by Shri. Narendra Singh Tomar, Honorable Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shri. P. Rupala and Shri. K. Choudhary, Union Ministers of State, Dr. T. Mohapatra, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR and Dr. Punjab Singh, former DG, ICAR and Dr. S. Uma, Director, ICAR-NRC Banana, New Delhi. Shri. Tomar felicitated all the awardees and motivated the farmers and scientists to take utmost efforts for fulfilling the dreams of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Make 5 Trillion Dollar economy by propelling the agricultural growth and safeguarding agriculture.
