Former Director, National Research Centre for Banana, Trichy during 1999-2006 has immensely contributed for Banana breeding research and development in India. He has worked in-depth, on breeding of Bananas. He has 41 years of research experience in fruit with specialization in Banana breeding and management. He has released the following fruits: “Banana –CO 1 (POME)”, Udhayam (Pisang Awak Type); Papaya – CO 2, CO 3, CO 5, CO 7 C”;”Avocado –TKDSI 1” and ‘Sapota – CO 3”. Developed Banana diploid male breeding lines having resistance to leaf spot diseases and nematodes. Developed strategies for breeding Bananas in India and Asia Pacific Regions. Responsible for constructing new state of the art building and modern laboratory for NRCB, Trichy. Recipient of Pisang Raja Award, Plaque of Honour by INIBAP, France, AIPUB fellow award, Kadali Puraskar Award (1996).
