The Crop Improvement unit at ICAR-NRCB focuses on Genetic Resource Management, Conventional Breeding, and Non-conventional Breeding methodologies. Through effective management of genetic resources and the application of advanced breeding techniques, the centre aims to develop improved banana and plantain varieties. These varieties exhibit desirable traits such as disease resistance, enhanced yield potential, superior fruit quality, and adaptation to diverse agro-climatic conditions. This research contributes directly to the development of high-performing cultivars, thereby increasing agricultural productivity and reducing production risks for farmers.
