Current Institute Projects:
  1. Identification of resistant gene candidate(s) in banana for race 1 and tropical race 4 of Fusarium oxysporumf. sp. Cubense (PI)
  2. Production of doubled haploids for improvement of bananas (Musa spp.) (Co-PI)
  3. Biochemical dissection of fruit ripening-related phenomena and components and exploring nutraceutical applications of bioactives of banana (Co-PI)
  4. Pest mapping in bananas and plantains of India (Co-PI)
  5. Investigations on Musa nematode’s biology, behaviour, diversity and their interactions (Co-PI)
  6. Development of agro-infectious clones for the DNA viruses infecting banana (Co-PI)
Current External Projects:
  1. ICAR-Enabling climate resilience and ensuring food and Nutritional security through gene editing in horticultural crops: sub-scheme – Application of genome editing to develop trait specific varieties / hybrids in banana crop - Gene editing to develop resistance against Foc TR4/ race1 and multiple viruses in Grand Nain banana (PI)
  2. DBT-Transgene free gene editing in high value vegetatively propagated crops – Sugarcane and Banana" (PI)
  3. DST-SERB - Gene Editing for Fusarium Wilt Resistance in Banana (Grand Nain, AAA) (PI)
  4. Consortia Research Platform on Vaccines and Diagnostics - Development and utilization of diagnostics to viruses of banana (Co-PI)
  1. Studied host-BBrMV/BBTV interactions in banana and identified candidate biomarker
  2. Identified and cloned full length candidate resistant genes against BBrMV, Foc race1 and TR4
  3. Identified genic SSR markers associated with resistance to Foc race1 and TR4
  4. Identified a SSR marker which differentiates red banana from its green variant
  5. Identified a SSR marker associated with seedlessness in banana
