ICAR- NRCB signs MOA with Andhra Pradesh Government for developing banana value chain

ICAR NRCB, central institute from Podhavur, Trichy, Tamil Nadu has signed a Memorandum of Agreement(MoA) with Andhra Pradesh government for providing new Innovative technologies on banana processing and value addition. Shri. Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy,Chief Minster, Andhra Pradesh, inked MoA with big market players like ITC and big basket for providing supply chain solution for other horticultural commodities especially, mango, tomato, chilli, onion, animal science and in aqua sector. He asked the private players to be more society oriented, emphasized for enhancing farmers income, creation of new markets and brands. ICAR- NRCB is also partnered with the AP government on this endeavour. This agreement ensures development of knowledge centre at Pulivendala under the AP Food Processing Society (APFPS), promotion of new micro food processing centre other than imparting capacity building to the entrepreneurs. Dr. A.K. Singh, DDG (Hort.Science), ICAR, New Delhi, Dr. S. Uma, Director, ICAR-NRCB has also participated in the event through online platforms. Dr. A.K. Singh appreciated the institute for the promotion of banana processing and generation of wealth from the waste and he stressed, this will create new market and robust ecosystem for banana. Director of the institute was overwhelmed with the response from the AP government for providing special emphasis for banana,creation of food park and she briefed that it's a milestone to give bigger boost on banana utilisation and thus better price realization to the farmers. She asked the Chief Minister to Introduce dehydrated ripe banana in noon meal scheme for developing immunity, stress free education for school going children. Drs.K.N.Shiva and P. Suresh Kumar, presented in the function and elaborated the various entrepreneurship options to the government and signed the agreement on behalf of the institute. Minister of Agriculture Mr. K. KannaBabu, Vice Chairman of AP Agriculture mission Mr. M.V.S. Nagi Reddy, Special Secretary Food Processing, Mrs. Poonam Malakondiah and Chief Executive Officer, APFPS, Mr. Sridhar Reddy and official from Agri and Horticulture departments also presented in the function.
