ICAR-NRCB, Trichy celebrates Agriculture Education Day 2016


To commemorate the birth anniversary of (Late) Dr. Rajendra Prasad, then Minister of Food and Agriculture in 1946 and the first President of Indian Republic, 3rd December of every year is being celebrated as Agriculture Education Day by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The main aim is to sensitize the students on the importance of agriculture and allied subjects for ensuring food and nutritional security of the people and livelihood security of the farmers, apart from contributing to the national GDP.

ICAR - NRCB, Trichy celebrated 'Agriculture Education Day' on 9th December, 2016. On this occasion, four different schools namely Government High School, Kavalkaranpatti; Amrita Vidyalaya, Rettaivaikal; Sri Sivananda Balalaya, Athavathur and St. Joseph Higher Sec. School, Somarasampettai of Tiruchirappalli participated in various competitions. A total of 44 students participated in various events conducted like drawing, essay writing and quiz competition. Themes were 'Organic farming and Recent developments in Indian agriculture'.

A team comprising of Scientists from various Divisions of ICAR-NRCB, Trichy adjudged the prize winners under various events, organized on the eve of Agriculture Education Day. Winners of the competitions were awarded and participatory certificates were distributed to all the pupils.

Dr.B.Padmanaban, Principal Scientist welcomed the gathering, Dr. S. Uma, Director, in her remarks introduced the students about the reason behind celebrating Agriculture Education Day and stressed the importance of agriculture in Indian context and motivated the students to choose Agriculture as their profession and Dr.K.J.Jeyabaskaran, Principal Scientist proposed the Vote of Thanks.
