A Memorandum of Understanding between NRCB, Tiruchirapalli and NIT, Tiruchirapalli was entered on 26.07.2017. Dr. S. Uma, Director, NRCB and Dr. Mini Shaji Thomas, Director, NIT signed the MoA at NIT, Tiruchirapalli, on behalf of the respective institutes. The NRCB is one of the premier national horticultural research institutes in India and is now celebrating the silver jubilee year of its establishment by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Its mandate is to increase the production and productivity of bananas and plantains through mission mode basic and strategic research approaches. The NRCB is addressing the needs of banana farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders, and has come up with several technologies covering the entire gamut of banana supply chain in India starting from farm level production to postharvest value addition and export.
The NIT (formerly known as Regional Engineering College), Tiruchirappalli, was established in 1964 with the support of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu and upgraded to a Deemed University in 2003 and to NIT status in 2009. The institute is a highly sought after, top-notch technical education and research hub in Trichy in the branches of engineering, science, technology and management.
Both the institutions have agreed to exchange ideas and expertise for developing imaging systems, electronic devices, solar energy applications in agriculture, nanotechnology and other fields by enlisting the students for internship and post graduate research programmes towards the benefit of farming community.
