Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticultural Science), ICAR, New Delhi, visited ICAR-National Research for Banana Research Farm and Laboratories, and interacted with Scientists on 01.11.2018. He visited NRCB farm and state of art transgenic net houses facilities where transgenic plants of cv. Rasthali and Grand Naine are being grown for evaluating the fruits for provitamin A and Iron analysis and he appreciated the progress of the project and also suggested to strictly follow DBT guidelines. He insisted to develop a SOP for evaluation of transgenic bananas. He appreciated the facilities developed high through put techniques for production of quality and virus indexed banana planting materials. He also suggested that while producing planting material on large scale, more precaution should be taken for developing the virus free and true to type tissue culture plants. During visit to Crop Protection laboratories, he appreciated the efforts made on “Web app of Banana pest of India” and the bio-formulations developed for tackling Fusarium wilt especially TR4. He insisted to test the bioformulations efficacy in Foc TR4 prone areas under field conditions. He also convened a meeting with Scientists. In the meeting, he appreciated the Director and Scientists fraternity for their valuable contribution to the farmers and other stakeholders in the country. He also suggested to utilize solar energy for banana bunch conveyer and to use drone technology for diagnosis of diseases and nutrient deficiency, and to concentrate more on field deliverable technologies
