ICAR- National Research Centre for Banana, Trichy has organized a five days training programme for the entrepreneurs of Manipur, a north eastern hill state on banana fibre extraction and utilization. The training was organized with the three-pronged strategies of the present government that Skill development for the least developed states, wealth generation from waste and doubling the farmers income. During the felicitation programme, Shri. Adithya Senthil Kumar, I.A.S. Sub Collector Srirangam appreciated the institute for supporting the youth on developing business acumen.
Dr. S. Uma, Director of the institute congratulated the trainees for choosing horticulture especially banana by products as their business option and asked them to have long time goal to achieve the sustainability. Dr. K.N. Shiva and Dr. P. Suresh Kumar, Course coordinators briefed that the entrepreneurs learnt new skill on the fibre extraction, preservation, using it for making handicrafts, bio-plates and sanitary napkin. the trainees were also exposed to more than 30 different value added products which are being produced from flour, ripe banana and wastes like central stem, flower and pickle. The training was supported by the ICAR- Manipur centre.
